SCHOOL HISTORY
The original name of Anacostia was Nacotchitanke which means “town of
trades”
Timeline of the Early Years
- 1935 Anacostia Junior/Senior High opened up and only accommodated
eighth and ninth graders
- 1937 Tenth through twelfth grades were included
- 1943 Kramer Junior High was built leaving Anacostia as a Senior
High School
- 1949 7 new classrooms added on the third floor
- 1955 An 8 room building, the Ketchum Annex, was added (now torn
down)
- 1958 17 rooms were added 1959 - $100,000 gym opened
