Army Junior ROTC Program

MISSION

The mission of the JROTC program as stated by Congress in 1916, is to motivate young people to be better Americans

Today’s program seeks to train students in leadership and motivational skills that serve them during their school years as well as throughout their lives.

JROTC is not a recruitment program for the military. Although many graduating cadets pursue military training, equal numbers do not. Participating in JROTC incurs no military obligation whatever, nor is it intended to apply any pressure in that direction. Rather, the military framework of the program is simply a very effective way to instill goal directed, success-oriented attitudes and behavior.

The JROTC program is a valuable addition to any school’s educational program. Here at Anacostia Senior High School, we try hard to:

-Motivate students to learn, not just in JROTC, but in all of their classes

-Foster a disciplined and constructive learning atmosphere, not just in JROTC, but throughout the school

-Instill essential skills like time management, planning, organizing, responsibility, goal setting and team work

-Provide extracurricular activities that build student’s self-confidence and enhance their involvement with their peers, their school, and their community

-We have the flexibility to tailor 72 of the 180 course hours to the unique needs of the students and the school

-Students who choose to enter the military, earn advance promotions upon enlistment or advance placement in college ROTC
